What To Expect From Dental Bonding
We get a ton of questions about dental bonding in Atlanta in our dental office, like what should I expect? How much does dental bonding cost? How long does dental bonding last? My goal is to provide you with those answers and more.
What is Dental Bonding or Teeth Bonding?
Tooth bonding is a term that a lot of people use when they're referring to a cosmetic dental change usually on their anterior or front teeth.
Bonding is a tooth-colored filling used to change the aesthetic result or the way the teeth look in the front. People prefer dental bonding because it can be finished in a one-time office visit.
Why Get Dental Bonding?
Here are a few examples of why and when tooth bonding might be utilized. Tooth decay is a primary reason. Another reason for teeth bonding would be if there's a fracture, say, from trauma.
A lot of times I get kids in here in our Atlanta dental office who were playing basketball without a mouth guard, and they broke half of their front tooth.
Usually not both, usually just one. Another reason someone would consider dental bonding would be to close a very small space in between the teeth.

Some people want teeth bonding to change the shade, usually to brighten the tooth surface. You can even use tooth bonding to re-shape your teeth.
About The Dental Bonding Procedure
The procedure is chairside. You experience the same thing you would experience when you get a regular filling any other place in the mouth. We select a shade. You're anesthetized. You have the procedure, and we collaborate in terms of the final results in terms of whether or not it meets your needs as well as ours.
Because it's an aesthetic area in terms of the front of your mouth, we want to be on the same page and make sure that we get the best result that we can get.
Usually, the typical teeth bonding procedure in our Atlanta office takes just an hour. That time can vary depending on where the tooth is located and how many teeth we are doing.
Dental Bonding Cost?
Your next question might be how much does dental bonding or tooth bonding cost? Well, it depends on how many teeth we're bonding, how many surfaces on that tooth, and that cost would also vary based on whether or not insurance would be involved. An average or range is probably $200-300 per tooth.
How Long Does Teeth Bonding Last?
Another question you might be asking is, how long will teeth filling or bonding last? Let's use the example of someone who fractures or breaks their front tooth during a sports activity. When we replace that missing tooth structure in the front of the mouth, we usually have to add a lot of the bonding material or filling material to the natural tooth structure.
When you've got a lot of filling material, you're going to have to be careful. We like to say sometimes it's "for-show." You can still function with it, but you're cutting up apples from now on. You're not bitting them with your front teeth.
We don't recommend doing a lot of hard biting with your front teeth. They're still functional, but again, this is not natural tooth structure, so it's durable and functional and aesthetic, but not as hard.
With proper care, cleaning and regular dental visits, we can evaluate and check for any changes or breakdown in the material. The average dental bonding could last easily 7-10 years, but it's not unusual for a filling like that to be replaced, especially if it's covering a large portion of the tooth.
