Dental Implants Costs, Insurance and Procedure
These are some of the most frequently asked questions that we hear in our office about dental implants in Atlanta GA. If you've been considered dental implants as an option for replacing missing teeth Peach Valley Dental can help. We offer high-quality affordable dental implants to help you restore your smile.
What Is A Dental Implant?
A dental implant is the screw that's embedded in the bone and acts as your root. The implant is the screw, but it's the dental crown that we see in the mouth that's supported by this screw. The implanted screw is actually the foundation of your dental implant.
Can Anyone Get Dental Implants?
So let's talk about whether or not you're a candidate for dental implants. If you've got an area or several areas in your mouth that you're missing teeth, then you are a candidate for a dental implant. If your health history meets the criteria for receiving one, then you are a candidate for a dental implant.
There are very few health conditions that preclude you from receiving a dental implant. However, poor hygiene, excessive smoking, and uncontrolled diabetes put you at a greater risk for them to fail. So after we've established that based on your health history, you are a candidate, then we're going to do a complete clinical examination.
Dental Implants Examination
That is an examination not just of the area where you're missing the tooth but of the entire mouth, including your tissues because healthy tissues and teeth are going to be important to support this implant. All of the pieces work together. So after that clinical exam, a complete series of x-rays will be taken to determine whether or not there's suitable bone to support the screw and to look at the condition of the teeth on either side of the space, because there should be no decay, no disease or infection associated with those teeth in the area where we're going place our implant.
The Dental Implant Procedure
Once your health history has been documented, then you're ready for the dental implant procedure. Chair-side, the experience is just like getting a filling. You get numb and in about 30 minutes you've got your dental implant. However, you will not have the tooth on that visit. It is important to create stability and allow the implant to heal and integrate with the bone naturally.
That occurs over a four to six month period of time. In the meantime, you could wear a denture of some kind. Or depending on the location of the implant and its placement, you may wear nothing at all, especially in the back of the mouth. What's required of you during those four to six months? Keeping a healthy and clean environment inside the mouth. The cleaner and healthier you keep your mouth, the better this implant will heal.

How Long Do Dental Implants Take?
After the four to six month period is up, you're ready for your crown. With the dental crown, the shape will be matched and it'll just be like your natural tooth. And just like your natural tooth, it's maintained the same way. You'll be able to eat, chew, smile and function just like a natural tooth.
Dental Implant Maintenance
You will clean, floss and brush your implant just like it's your natural tooth and on your dental visit, your dentist or hygienist will clean that area just like they do the rest of your teeth.
As long as you maintain periodic recommended dental appointments so that x-rays can be taken periodically to evaluate stability, this implant can last you a good 10 to 20 years.
Cost Of Dental Implants
Now the big question, can I afford this? How much should dental implants cost? Dental implants average, depending on your area, between $2000 and $4000 per tooth but without a dental implant, you run the risk of losing that space, compromising your bite and the aesthetics in the entire mouth. It's always best to try to replace a missing tooth.
Dental Plans That Cover Implants
Another question is, will my insurance pay for a dental implant? Most insurance plans will cover a percentage of the total costs of your dental implants. They're not covered 100%. So you can seek that information out with your insurance provider.
